Dot volleyball standout wins Little East honors

UMass-Boston women's volleyball player Molly Rattigan of Dorchester has been named Little East Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week for her play during the week of September 8-14. The freshman standout from Fontbonne Academy spiked a season-high seven kills in the Beacons' 3-0 win over Mount Ida College on September 12 at the Plymouth State College Days Inn of Campton Tournament.

Rattigan is one of just three players on the team to play in all 34 sets on the season and start all 10 matches.  She leads the squad with 26 total blocks for an average of 0.76 per set and has registered at least one block in every match and multiple blocks in nine contests.  The first-year player also stands fourth on the team with 1.00 kills per set to go with a .170 hitting percentage to rank third on the team.

UMass Boston is currently 6-4 on the season after finishing as the runner-up at the Days Inn of Campton tournament and has won six of its last eight matches.  The Beacons will be in action again on September 18 when they host Wentworth Institute of Technology at 7 p.m. at the Clark Athletic Center.
