Dorchester teen charged in incident that left four shot outside troubled Roxbury bar

Boston police report arresting Charkeem Hyatt, 19, of Dorchester, following a shooting spree outside Packy Connor's Pub on Blue Hill Avenue early this morning that ended, police say, with officers and Hyatt exchanging gunfire.

Police say three men and one woman were injured in the incident, which began around 2 a.m. as the bar was letting out for the night.

Hyatt was charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm, discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest. Police say Blue Hill Avenue near Quincy Street, south of Packy Connor's, will be shut most of the morning as they investigate the shootings and officers' use of their weapons.

Police have asked the Boston Licensing Board several times to shut the bar, which they say is a hotspot for trouble in the area.

Just last week, the licensing board voted to let Packy Connor's stay open despite police complaints about an all-out brawl outside the bar in May that left three people stabbed and four arrested. At last week's hearing, board chairman Daniel Pokaski agreed with the bar's owners that they were being unfairly blamed for incidents happening outside the bar in an unsafe neighborhood.
