Gang unit may move further away

The Boston Police Department’s Gang Unit is destined to leave its current location in Kane Square, a previously-reported move that will save the city tens of thousands of dollars. The building it now occupies will be turned over to the Public Facilities Department. At the time the move was announced, officials said it would likely move to a Special Operations building on Warren Street near Dudley Square, but since then the plan has apparently shifted to a location at the Police Academy, deep in leafy Hyde Park and far from any significant gang activity.

“It’s something they’ve been leaning toward but I just had a conversation with [Commissioner Ed Davis] and they’re still not decided yet,” said police spokeswoman Elaine Driscoll. “The decision has not been completed at this point.”
