Man pulled from Neponset River identified as William Macrae, 32

Law enforcement officials have identified the man pulled from the Dorchester side of Neponset River as 32-year-old William Macrae. He was discovered lying in shallow water, off Ventura Street in Lower Mills, five feet from the shoreline on Sunday morning at 8:10 by a woman walking her dog.

Officials from the State Police, Boston Fire Department and the Boston Police Department responded to her call.

There were no apparent signs of trauma and no indications of foul play at the scene or in the area, according to Jake Wark, spokesman for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office.

Macrae appeared to be homeless and efforts were underway to find any relatives, Wark said. “The investigation will remain open until a final autopsy report is complete and a cause of death has been ruled by the medical examiner,” he added.

Autopsy reports usually take several weeks to complete.
