Bayside manager: Shows will go on through spring

The potential sale of the Bayside Expo Center to UMass-Boston will not impact the roster of scheduled events planned for the venue in the first four months of 2010, according to the facility’s management.
In a statement issued on Monday, Bayside manager Tom Ballantine said that the venue has several shows booked through April— including the World of Wheels and a Food and Wine expo.
“With the re-opening of Bayside, we were aware of a potential sale, said Ballantine, whose Virginia-based company was contracted to run the Bayside venue last year. “With that, [Ballantine Management Group] neither promised nor booked any events after April 2010.”
Ballantine says that his company is “in negotiations with several event organizers to add a few more to the schedule.”
UMass-Boston chancellor Dr. Keith Motley announced last month that the university had entered into an agreement to buy the Bayside property for an undisclosed price. UMass-Boston intends to use the site for classroom space and parking as it builds new facilities on its own Columbia Point campus footprint.
