Two Dorchester men charged in connection with Boston area gun, drug ring

Benito Maleveje and Juan Omi Velazquez were among 10 men charged in federal court today with running guns, heroin and cocaine in Boston and Chelsea.

For Velazquez, a.k.a., Cyclops, it's his second arrest this week. On Sunday, Lynn police say he was among 20 members of the national Latin Kings gangs arrested on their way to a shootout in Lynn, the Lynn Daily Item reported.

Velazquez, 28, was charged today with being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, which could earn him 10 years in federal prison if convicted.

Malaveje, 38 and also known as Manny Navarro, was charged with distribution of heroin, which has a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.

Other members of the alleged ring face sentences of up to life in prison if convicted.
