Library roof leak sealed, but more repairs needed
There’s good news for patrons and friends of the Lower Mills Library: A breach in the roof that forced the temporary closure of the building last Friday has been located and sealed. But the Richmond Street branch will remain closed through the next week as repair crews fix the ceiling near the circulation desk, where the problem was located.
“The roof has been sealed and the facility is structurally sound,” said Gina Perille, a spokesperson for the Boston Public Library. “We are moving into the repair phase. We had to open up part of celimng to investigate the leak, so our focus now is on repairing the ceiling.”
Perille said that the BPL is “pretty optimistic” that the branch will re-open for Tuesday, Feb. 22. No library materials were damaged by the leak, she said. The BPL’s branches are closed on Monday Feb. 21 for the President’s Day holiday.
