Police arrest man sought in Mather Street pit bull abuse

Perry

A Dorchester man turned himself in today after police put a warrant out for his arrest on animal-abuse charges related to an alleged dog-fighting ring uncovered last month on Mather Street. Tyrone Perry, 44, will be arraigned tomorrow in Dorchester District Court, according to the Boston Police and the Suffolk County District Attorney's office.

Boston Police and animal control officials raided the house at 56 Mather Street on Dec. 19 after they received tips that someone was using the property to train and fight pit bulls. Eleven dogs - many of them said to be in bad shape - were rescued from the basement of the house. One dog was found dead at the scene.

Perry will be arraigned on 12 counts of cruelty to animals - one for each of the dogs - the District Attorney's office says.

Boston Police said at the time that they had been in touch with the dogs' owner, who was out of state.
