Mattapan woman lost leg in marathon bombing

A 30 year-old Mattapan mother is among the victims recovering from a terrible injury sustained in Monday's terror attack on Boylston Street. Marie Daniels lost her leg when one of two explosions tore through a crowd of innocents standing near the finish line.

Her husband, Richardson Daniels, said that she is now in stable condition thanks to heroic work of first responders and caregivers at Massachusetts General Hospital, who saved her life.

"Her heart stopped twice," said Mr. Daniels, a native of Haiti, like his young wife. "They re-animated her in the ER and again in the operating room. They needed to operate on her right away. She is getting excellent care."

Daniel said that his wife wanted to watch the marathon and had originally thought of bringing the couple's 5 year-old daughter with her. He got a call from the hospital about one half-hour after the bombing to alert him to her trauma.

"She's doing Ok now," said Richardson Daniel. "She met the president yesterday who came to visit her at MGH. She's receiving great care and they're doing all they can to help her cope with the loss of her leg and all that comes with that."

On Friday night, Richardson Daniel is watching with the rest of the world as police close in on one of the two suspects in the bombing case. He hopes that the suspect- 19 year-old Dzokher Tsarnaev_ will be captured alive.

The Daniels have a five year old daughter and live in a home off of Blue Hill Ave. near the Dorchester line.
