Man in custody for second assault that may be linked to homicide

A South Boston woman who was abducted and later stabbed to death and dumped in a wooded section of Hyde Park was first driven to several ATM machines in Dorchester, according to Boston Police. Authorities released surveillance images on Wednesday afternoon as they sought the public's assistance in the investigation.

Lord, 24, was abducted near her apartment on Dorchester Street in South Boston on Tuesday morning. Police say that her bank account was accessed at five different ATMs between 6 a.m. and 6:47 a.m. The ATM locations included:

• East Boston Savings Bank at 501 Southampton Street
• Metro Credit Union at 1071 Massachusetts Ave
• Bank of America at 555 Columbia Road
• Sovereign Bank at 585 Columbia Road
• Citizen’s Bank at 217 Adams Street

Lord's mutilated body was discovered just after 4 p.m. on Tuesday afternoon in the Stony Brook Reservation. Her car, which was stolen during the incident, was found burned on Logan Way in South Boston.

In what could be a related incident, a second South Boston woman was attacked by a knife-wielding assailant near her residence on Gates Street around 12 a.m. on Wednesday. The victim was badly injured, but is expected to survive. Hours later, Boston Police apprehended a suspect in the Gates Street attack. Edwin Alemany, 28, will be charged with assault with intent to murder. Alemany has not yet been publicly named as a suspect in the Lord murder, but police sources tell the Reporter he may be linked to that crime as well.

Boston Police ask anyone with any information on these incidents to call Detectives at C-6 South Boston at 617-343-4742 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-494-TIPS (8477). In a statement on their website, Boston Police asked that "community members... pay special attention to Amy Lord’s wardrobe in particular her shoes which appear to be bright red or orange in color."
