Carney wins spot on national Top Hospital list

The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is given to less than seven percent of all eligible hospitals— and Dorchester’s Carney Hospital is once again on the list. The awards, given annually for those hospitals that meet top safety and quality standards, were announced at Leapfrog’s Annual Meeting and Top Hospital Awards on December 2, in Washington, D.C.

“Delivering outstanding patient care is central to our mission,” said Andy Davis, Carney Hospital president. “Recognition as a Top Hospital provides confirmation of our staff’s excellence and quality care we provide our patients. It is an honor to work with such a great team,” continued Davis.

“By achieving Top Hospital status, Carney Hospital has proven it’s a premier institution and deserves to be recognized for its dedication to the families and patients in Boston,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.

Carney Hospital was one of 94 hospitals recognized nationally. Leapfrog’s survey measures hospitals’ performance on patient safety and quality, focusing on three critical areas of hospital care: how patients fare, resource use and management structures established to prevent errors.

Carney, a 159-bed hospital with more than 300 physicians, cares for approximately 37,000 patients annually. Carney, which is part of the Steward Health Care System, has also received the Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for health care quality and safety.
