Thursday (31st) – Soul City Band performs live in concert at Dorchester Park at 7 p.m. The free show starts at 7 p.m. The stage will be located on the Adams Street side of the park in the “bowl” baseball field. Soul City Band bills itself as “Boston’s premiere soul cover band” with a song list heavy with Motown classics. Call 617-635-4505 for more info.

• Ashmont Hill Chamber Music will present the second of its 2014 concerts at the First Parish Unitarian Universalist Church, 535 Canton Ave. in Milton, 6 p.m. reception, 7 p.m. concert. The program will include Olivier Messiaen’s Quartet for the End of Time. The night concludes with a post-concert reception. Monday (4th) – Aidan’s Barber Shops in Lower Mills and Adams Corner host a “buzz-off” to support Tommy Kelly, age 4, who has been battling a tough cancer diagnosis since June. Florian Hall, 7:30 a.m.- 5p.m. Donations go to support a foundation being formed in Tommy’s name. Check out Aidan’s Facebook page or their website, aidansbarbershop.com.

• The Parks Department hosts a meeting this evening at 6:30 at William Devine Golf Clubhouse, 1 Circuit Dr., Dorchester to discuss the results of its Open Space Plan survey. With this information the Parks Department is developing a multi-year integrated plan for open space protection and development. Open space advocates, parents, caregivers, and all users of Boston’s parks are invited to attend these meetings. • Mayor Martin J. Walsh’s Movie Night at Almont Park in Mattapan. Free popcorn will be provided by AMC Loews Theatres. Showtime 7:45 p.m. Bring your blankets and chairs and make yourself comfortable as you enjoy these family favorites in the outdoors.

Tuesday (5th) – State’s Dept. of Conservation and Recreation will present the design and construction plans for improvements
to the Kennedy Playground in Mattapan at 6:30 p.m. at ABCD’s Mattapan Family Service Center,

Thursday (7th) – Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site and the Boston Harbor Islands National Recreation Area offer a guided walking tour of Pleasure Bay and Marine Park in South Boston at 6 p.m. This two-hour walk will examine the history and design of this ocean-side landscape originally envisioned as part of Olmsted’s Emerald Necklace park system. The meeting place for the tour is outside Sullivan’s Castle Island Restaurant. Free and open to the public, and will take place rain or shine. No advance reservations are required.
