Saturday (4th) – Independence Day in the United States of America.

Monday (6th) – The Pope’s Hill Neighborhood Association present annual Free Theater Arts program for children at Neponset’s Garvey Park. Children enrolled in this program will have an opportunity to explore and design theatrical sets, costumes, props and skills which will culminate in a performance for the community every other week. 5-8 p.m. for ages 6-14. Space is limited.

Tuesday (7th) – Franklin Park Pee-Wee Basketball begins its season. Every Tuesdays and Thursdays 6-8 p.m. Boys & girls ages 6-10, anyone can play. Coaching, t-shirts, a tournament, and fun with Boston Neighborhood Basketball League at the White Stadium / Playstead basketball courts. • The Boston Parks and Recreation Department’s annual ParkARTS program gets underway at 9 a.m. at Town Field, Fields Corner. Children ages three to ten can enjoy watercolor painting, mask and jewelry making, treasure creations, and more at the Artists in Residence Workshops held from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in parks across the city. Free, but young children must be accompanied by an adult. Groups of six or more must make prior arrangements by calling the Boston Parks Department at 617-635-4505.

Explore the way herbs were used by colonial families like the Pierces. Adams Street Library, 690 Adams St., Dorchester. Decorate a pot and plant an herb to take home. For ages 3 and up.

Friday (10th) – Gold Cup soccer tournament at Gillette Stadium features a double-header between Honduras v. Panama and USA v. Haiti. First game starts at 6 p.m. Tickets: GoldCup.org
Saturday (11th) – Fair Verona Festival, a free community arts day, at Blue Hill Club, Harambee Park, Talbot Avenue, Dorchester from 4-8 p.m. Includes workshops and performances by artists in dance, music, theatre and visual arts. For more information, see commshakes.org.
Monday (13th) – Codman Square Health Center’s Public Annual Meeting at 6:00pm in the Great Hall honors State Senator Linda Dorcena Forry and State Representative Russell Holmes for their contribution to Codman Square Health Center and our community.

• Dorchester People for Peace monthly meeting, 6:30 p.m. at Vietnamese American Community Center, 42 Charles St., Dorchester. KT Crossman will provide legal observers training as a way to document what goes on at actions for justice and peace.

Tuesday (14th) – Elma Lewis Playhouse in the Park series opens at 11a.m. with a performance by OrigiNation; with a 6p.m. performance by E-Water Band. Continues every Tuesday through August 18.
