New HarborWalk section opens on Columbia Point

A new section of the Harborwalk is now open for visitors on the Columbia Point peninsula. The 800-foot stretch of paved walkway — complemented by lighting, beaches and other amenities— is situated on the UMass Boston campus between the Kennedy Library and the Harbor Point Apartment community.

“It’s wonderful to see this new section open for walkers, joggers, bicyclists, and everyone who wants to enjoy our spectacular waterfront this summer,” said Chancellor J. Keith Motley. “We are so pleased to share this beautiful stretch with our friends and neighbors.”

Areas along the section of the HarborWalk have been seeded with grass and native plants have been seeded along this new section of the HarborWalk, but the public is asked “to refrain from using these areas until the vegetation has taken root,” according to Motley’s office. A formal dedication of the new section is scheduled for September.
