Online survey helps inform Roberts Playground re-design

Neighbors can give input into proposed re-design of Roberts Playground.

The Roberts Playground Play Area on Dunbar Avenue is set to be renovated next summer and the Boston Parks and Recreation Department is seeking public input through an online survey.

Planned renovations to the park include the playground, pathways, Washington Street entry, and the basketball/tennis courts, according to the survey site. The parks department would like community input to help in “determining how the playground will look and feel in the future,” according to a statement.

“We are very interested in what the community has to contribute to the design process,” the department wrote.

Organizers said the three variants of the playground plan in the survey were presented at a December community meeting.

Survey respondents are asked about the frequency of their visits to Roberts Park, their usual activities there, and whom they would like the area to serve. The three proposals are presented to be ranked by preference.

The survey is available until Friday, Jan. 8 at 5 p.m.

After the conclusion of the survey, a public meeting to discuss the improvements is scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 14 at 6:30 p.m. at the Lee Academy Pilot School Cafeteria, 24 Dunbar Ave., Dorchester. Representatives from the Boston Parks and Recreation Department and the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Services will be present for a brief presentation and community input.
