St. William’s Dorchester Fund hosts scholarship awards event on May 14

The Saint William's Dorchester Fund will be holding its fifth annual Scholarship Awards & Social Evening on Thursday, May 14 at the Phillips Banquet Facility, 780 Morrissey Blvd., Dorchester. The event begins at 7:15p.m. with a social hour, to be followed by scholarship presentations and artistic performances by past and present scholarship winners. The suggested donation is $20 for adults and $10 for students. Assorted hot and cold hors d’oeuvres will be served and we will be raffling off lots of great prizes throughout the night.

“We are working hard to make this year’s event the best ever, and we hope to see lots of new faces,” said event organizer Jim Burke. “We have a fantastic night of entertainment planned, so please stop by the Phillips House on May 14th and cheer on this year’s outstanding winners. We encourage everyone who loves music and the arts, and who believes that the youth of Dorchester deserve to be recognized for outstanding talent, to come out and support our efforts.”

The scholarships will be awarded to: Christian Exconde - Boston College High School Cello/Violin Ensemble; Mollie Mannion - Boston Latin School, Irish Step Dance Performance; Ian Marx - Boston College High School, Piano/Keyboard Recitation; and Jacqueline Painten – Thayer Academy, Songwriter, Vocals & Keyboard.

There will also be a special guest performance by 2012 scholarship winner John Carney and his band, “Grace & The Carnivores.”
