Jury convicts brothers of murder outside Mt. Vernon Street hotel

A Suffolk Superior Court jury on Monday convicted Harold and Shawn Coleman of second-degree murder for the stabbing death of Christopher Borgella outside the DoubleTree Hotel on Mt. Vernon Street early on March 1, 2014, the Suffolk County District Attorney's office reports.

The convictions mean mandatory life sentences, with the possibility of parole after 15 years.

Prosecutors say Harold Coleman, 28, of Dorchester, and Shawn Coleman, 24, of the South End, were at a party at the hotel that night. Borgella was at another party at the hotel. When a fight broke out between the two groups, hotel management ordered them all out.

According to the DA's office: "The respective groups went outside and became involved in a physical altercation in the parking lot, where Harold Coleman and Shawn Coleman attacked him. Borgella suffered a fatal stab wound in that attack, and two other men suffered non-fatal injuries after the defendants beat and stabbed them."
