Man charged with firing shot that grazed woman who'd just left church in Codman Square

The Boston Police Department reports arresting James Martin, 22, on charges he fired the shot that sent a woman who'd just left church to the hospital last Friday afternoon.

Police charge that Martin pulled out a gun during an argument with another man last Friday and fired. But instead of hitting his target, the bullet went through the windshield of a car outside the Freedom in Christ Ministry, grazing the woman in the head.

Police say they were able to use surveillance video to identify Martin. Then, around 5:20 p.m. today: "Officers from District C-11 (Dorchester) observed the individual in the area of Adams and Gibson Streets. When officers approached, the individual took off running. After a brief foot pursuit, officers were able to catch up to and subdue the suspect."

Martin was charged with assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and possession of an unlicensed firearm, police say.
