A man in his 20s was fatally shot inside a Holiday Inn Express hotel room by the South Bay shopping center early Tuesday morning, police said.

Officers responded at about 4:15 am. to a fifth floor room in the 69 Boston St. building, where they found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene.

Boston Police Commissioner William Evans told reporters after the shooting that suspects fled the scene, pulling fire alarms in the hotel, and the investigation is active and ongoing. Police said Tuesday afternoon that no arrests have been made.
