State gives Norwell Street housing plan a $600k boost

A plan to convert a vacant parcel near Codman Square into six units of housing is getting a boost from the state’s affordable housing fund.

MassHousing said Monday that it would offer $600,000 in “workforce housing financing” to Travis Lee, a Dorchester-based developer.

His company TLee Development, which owns 246-248 Norwell St., will put more than $375,000 of its own financing toward the project.

Eastern Bank will also provide $875,000 in construction and permanent financing, according to MassHousing.

The six units will be marketed to earning at or below 70 percent of the Area Median Income, which for a household of four in Boston is $72,400.

MassHousing has financed or manages the rental subsidy on 27 rental housing communities in Dorchester involving 3,240 units of housing and $142 million in total financing.
