To the Editor:

In "New moves in Melville Ave. house standoff" in the March 23, edition of the Dorchester Reporter, Yvonne Ruggles, a plaintiff in the 99 Melville case, said, "The plaintiffs are moving forward to resolve this issue and asking the court to enforce the remedy." In plain English the "remedy" is the demolition or removal of the O'Flahertys house. Last year, when the city held a meeting about clarifying the zoning code, many residents spoke out on both sides of the issue, but all said that they did not wish to see the O'Flahertys house torn down. Even Ruggles herself said publicly that she had not asked for the house to come down. The fact that it has now come to this point is a neighborhood tragedy. I urge Dorchester residents to call their elected officials and demand that something be done to remedy this situation (and by remedy I don't mean destroying this family's home).
