Church to "slow down" school plans
In a shift from earlier statements, the Archdiocese of Boston acknowledged today that Dorchester pastors charged with reorganizing the eight remaining Catholic grade schools in Dorchester and Mattapan were presented with documents that outlined a regional system at the site of four existing schools, as reported in last week's Reporter. Catholic church spokesman Terrence Donilon said this week that the pastors were asked to consider a memorandum of understanding "far too early in the process."

Council considering property tax amnesty for seniors
At the suggestion of a neighborhood activist, the city council is considering a motion that would exempt senior citizens from fees and interest on overdue property taxes if they agreed to pay the back taxes within an allotted time.

On Bowdoin Street, cries for peace
Bowdoin-Geneva residents and community leaders gathered last Saturday for a "Community Day of Peace," a march and rally designed to speak out against the violent crime that has befallen that neighborhood in recent months.

The Louis D. Brown Peace Institute has launched a new program to help the families of murder victims navigate the often complex workings of the justice system in the wake of a loved one's death.

Savin Hill to memorialize Leo Lydon
Lifelong Savin Hill activist Leo Lydon, who died suddenly in 2000, will be commemorated this fall outside the Savin Hill T station with a clock, a symbol that represents Lydon's "Time spent with the youth of Savin Hill."
