Wall's push on violence has upside for him
The recent run of heavily publicized violent crimes in Dorchester, including five murders since January 1, has brought a tornado of self-fueling media scrutiny to the neighborhood. On Tuesday, the Dorchester pastor who has been the loudest critic of the mayor and police department declared a personal victory with a press release announcing the financial gain he stands to make by denouncing what he sees as the city's inaction.

State police get tough on warring teens
Months after neighbors and law enforcement officials first complained that teens from several Dorchester neighborhoods were fighting with their high school classmates from other neighborhoods, the state police are serving notice that the next time teenagers are caught doing what the shouldn't where they shouldn't, the response will not be a warning. It might mean charges, and a permanent criminal record.

Douglass to open second eatery in Carruth building
The six-story apartment complex taking shape above the Ashmont T station marked two more milestones last week when Ashmont Grille owner Chris Douglass inked a deal to open a pizza/pasta eatery on the ground floor of the new building and dignitaries signed the structur's final steel beam at a 'topping off' ceremony on Thursday afternoon.

Dorm notion draws heat at UMass session
Neighorhood activists strongly opposed to the construction of dormitories at UMass-Boston spoke out publicly in front of university administrators on Tuesday evning as the school moves slowly toward formulating the master plan that will dictate its structural and academic agenda for years to come.

Patrick calls Fairmount Line expansion a priority
Gov. Deval Patrick said last Thursday that improvements to the Fairmount Commuter Rail Line were a priority for his administration, even after an independent Transportation Finance Commission report concluded last week that transportation infrastructure across the state would require billions of dollars in improvements to maintain current service levels.
