Moms call for tougher tracking of guns

Activists tell City Hall: "We'll sue to get more cops"
A group of Boston residents- most from crime watch activists in Dorchester- sent a letter today to Boston Mayor Tom Menino and city councillors urging them to hire more Boston Police officers. The residents warned that they plan to sue if the city does not comply with a city statute that mandates that the department employ a mimimum of 2,500 uniformed officers.

Gun buyback nets 92 guns in first two days
The first two days of a Boston Police-led gun buyback program yielded 92 guns citywide, including more than a dozen at Dorchester's two police stations. The one-month program asks city residents to turn in a gun at various designated drop-off sites citywide in exchange for a $200.00 Target ® gift card. Monday night also saw two new homicides on Dorchester's District 11, as a man was stabbed to death on Melville Ave. and a young woman shot to death on Owencroft Road.

Artist discusses vision for Peabody Sq.
Dorchester-based artist Joe Wheelwright has been commissioned to install a sculpture in Peabody Square. On Monday, he shared his vision for the project during a walk through of his Humphrey St. studio.
