Stopping the Violence: In Search of Real Solutions

Above, Kai Leigh Harriot, who was left paralyzed in 2003 when stray bullet struck her as she played on her on Bowdoin Street porch, helped to unveil new billboards warning of the impact of gun violence during a press conference on Talbot Ave. last Thursday.

The first month of summer in the neighborhood was dominated by news of both rising crime rates and of the increasing efforts officials and activists were making to change that trend. During the last two weeks, the Reporter reached out to local politicians, community activists, and neighborhood residents in search of concrete solutions to the problem.
Over 40 respondents offered their support, their thoughts and opinions culled from press conferences, and public meetings, phone conversations and written statements.
