Intramural & All-Star Soccer Program

With the regular season of the Intramural League complete, the play-off tournament was held over the past two weeks with the semi-finals played last week followed by a thrilling championship game held last Saturday. In the semi-final games the opener saw Manchester United, behind the scoring of Francis DePina (3 goals) and Jeffrey Herron (1 goal) defeat F.C. Barcelona by a score of 4-3. Andronique DosSantos (3 goals) provided the offense for F.C. Barcelona. In the second game Celtic F.C. defeated Inter Milan by a score of 4-1. Edison Vazquez (2 goals), Jabriel Pressley (1 goal) and Alberto Monteiro (1 goal) led the offense for Celtic F.C. while Mauro Barbosa (1 goal) led Inter Milan. For the semi-final games the Defensive Player of the Week Awards go to Desmond O’Halloran (Celtic F.C.) and Jerry Lopes (Inter Milan) while Francis DePina (Manchester United) and Andronique DosSantos (F.C. Barcelona) were declared the Offensive Players of the Week. In the Championship Game both teams played so well that in addition to an overtime period, we needed a triple-overtime shootout to determine a winner. After the third shootout it was Celtic F.C. coming away with a 6-5 victory. Isaac Butler (3 goals), Armoni Monteiro (1 goal), Molly O’Halloran (1 goal) and Alberto Monteiro (1 goal) provided the offense for Celtic F.C. while Jeffrey Herron (2 goals), Saide Smith (2 goals) and D’Mitra Weathers (1 goal) scored for Manchester United. Isaac Butler of Celtic F.C. and Joshua Herron of Manchester United were voted the Offensive and Defensive Player of the Game respectively. Congratulations to all four teams on another great season. Our two All-Star teams have wrapped up regular season play as well. Our Denney Center Stars ended their season on a good note, winning their first game of the year by a 6-1 score over the South Boston Boys and Girls Club. Meanwhile, our Stars at the Marr building qualified for play-offs with the best record in the regular season. They opened the play-offs with an exciting 3-2 win over the Jordan Boys and Girls Club of Chelsea. Jezeel Mendes (1 goal), Mauro Barboso (1 goal) and Devante Teixeira (1 goal) led the team’s offense, helping lead them to the championship game against the Waltham Boys and Girls Club on 6/17. Good luck to our All-Stars as they attempt to repeat as N.E.N.E.A.P.C. champions.
