Boys & Girls Club Holds Member Recognition Night
This past Thursday, the Club closed out the school year program with our Annual Member Recognition Night Dinner. Nearly 400 club members, parents, staff and board members were in attendance as members were recognized throughout the various program areas. After a dinner created by Kids Café Director, Dale Foster, the evening began with award for Summer Athletics and Education followed by Fine Arts and Music.
Just a short time later, Maureen Peterson, Chair of the Board of Directors, presented the Youth of the Year Awards to: Nisia McCormack, Racquish Leard, Regina Crawford, Kara Shaughnessey, Taylor Clooney, Kayla Cardoso (Girl of the Year) and Max Barbosa (Youth of the Year). Max also represented his fellow award winners at the Statewide Youth of the Year judging held in Marlboro in May.
Next on the agenda was a special award of recognition to retiring Boston Police Superintendent in Chief, Robert Dunford for his many years of service to the community. After program awards in Athletics (Winter & Spring), Social Recreation, Teen Program, Aquatics and our Denney Center Unit we closed the night with our Program Director Awards, the top award in each program area.
These award winners were: Social Recreation – Jazeel Mendes; Aquatics – Sean O’Donnell; Athletics – Taylor Clooney; Walter Denney Youth Center – Marshall Reid and Nisia McCormack and; Teen Center – Joey Brandao and Kayla Cardoso. Congratulations to these winners and all of the members recognized on this night for their leadership, participation and sportsmanship. We would also like to thank our friends at The Greater Boston Food Bank and Dorchester Tire for their support of the event.
