Girls All-Star Floor Hockey Team Captures Championship
Like their counterparts in the Boys 13 & under division, the Girls 14 & under All-Star Floor Hockey team repeated as champions in the N.E.N.E.A.P.C. League with a thrilling 7-5 victory over the Billerica Boys and Girls Club. Our Girls finished in first place in the regular season with their only blemish being a 2-1 loss at the Charlestown Club. To get to the championship game the Lady Colonels defeated the Charlestown Club, setting them up for a tough battle against a talented Billerica squad. The home team took a one-goal lead into the second and third periods before Billerica tied the game at the midway point of the third period. The action went back and forth with both goalies stopping chances until the Lady Colonels scored with under five minutes to play. As the third period neared its end, Billerica pulled their goalie in a last attempt to tie the game, but an open-net score gave the home team the cushion it needed to pull off the victory. Congratulations to team members: Jailene Peguero (goalie), Cadejia Matthews (2 goals, 1 assist), D’Mitra Weathers, Brittney Goncalves (1 assist), Armani Monteiro, Casey MacKinnon (1 assist), Niamh Kerr, Jennifer Tavares, Natalie O’Donovan (4 goals), Jessica Teixeira (1 assist) and Olivia McGrath (1 goal). This game marks the close of the Floor Hockey season which will return again next Fall. For information on the Winter Athletic programs please contact Bruce Seals at ext. 2210.
Music Clubhouse News
The new Music Clubhouse has proven to be one of the busiest program spots at the Club as members ages 10 and older begin to take advantage of the instruments, practice studio and recording room. Upcoming in the week of 2/1 we will see the return of our one-to-one and small group music instruction sessions with our volunteer interns from Berklee College. Please note that pre-registration with the Music Clubhouse Director is required to take part. For those members not enrolled in lessons you are encouraged to take advantage of the drop-in program to utilize the instruments and equipment available. One of the more attractive options are the Rock Band Friday events. Thanks to donations from Harmonix and the Music & Youth Initiative, equipment was donated to our site to host these weekly sessions. The Rock Band program engages our members with music that is familiar to them and gets them to experiment with real instruments. Another recent development was the creation of a compilation CD by members in the various Music Clubhouses in the Greater Boston area. Club members Stanley Harris and Jeffrey Gonsalves created a song with a positive community message to represent our Club. The pair then visited the mixing studio at Berklee College and worked with a school Professor to master their final product. For more information on the Music Clubhouse please contact Alex Budrow at ext. 1410.
