Safe Summer Streets Boys Basketball Championships

The 4-team Intermediate and the 8-team Senior Boys divisions of the Safe Summer Streets Basketball League have completed their respective play-off tournaments. The final regular season standings for the Intermediate division had Duke in first place at 8-2 followed by the Free Agents at 6-4, Lakers at 4-6 and the Magic at 2-8. In the semi-final play-off round the opening game saw the Magic upset Duke on a desperation 3-point shot 77-76. Eduardo DeLeon (35), Francis DePina (27), Eric Correia (12) and Philip Soares (3) led the Magic while Duke was led by David Harrison (16), Mike Warren (11), Steve Karlberg (10), Dominic DiPietro (9), Kenneth Fairneny (9), Ryan Roach (7), T.J. Vasquez (6), Teddy Fisher (6) and Brian Donohue (2). In the second game it was the Lakers taking out the Free Agents 60-45. The Lakers were led by Philip Lodge (21), Khalil Newson (11), Tre Fernandes (9), Junior Monteiro (9), Sandro Mendes (4), Cedric Correia (2), Jerry Lopes (2) and Anthony DePina (2) while Emoni Vicente (17), Kaylab Silva (8), Maxwell Spinola (8), Rafael Garcia (4), Davonte Hall (3), Joaquim Pires (3) and Aloisi Barbosa (2) led the Free Agents. In the title game the Lakers opened up an early lead and held it throughout on their way to an 81-70 victory and the 2010 championship. The Lakers were led by Khalil Newson (19), Philip Lodge (18), Tre Fernandes (17), Junior Monteiro (10), Drequan Jones (9), Sandro Mendes (4), Cedric Correia (2) and Jerry Lopes (2) while the Magic were led by Eduardo DeLeon (31), Francis DePina (25), Alberto Monteiro (10) and Eric Correia (4). Congratulations to both teams on their successful seasons. In the Senior Boys division Run & Gun finished in first place with an 8-2 record followed by Brooks at 7-3, the Bullets at 6-4, the Tsunami at 6-4, the Celtics at 5-5, the Cavs and Horsemen tied at 4-6 and C-Town at 0-10. In the first of our quarter-final games Brooks advanced with an 85-71 win over the Horsemen. Brooks was led by Rayshaw Matthews (29), Eduardo DeLeon (26), Tyrell Pugh (16), Mazinho Correia (9) and Paulo Maia (5) while Shawn Roach (27), Racquish Leard (19), Tino Goncalves (12), Joey Brandao (8) and Rosevelth Centeio (5) led the Horsemen. In the next game Run & Gun defeated C-Town 74-51. Daquan Hardy (20), Michael Montrond (16), Max Barbosa (13), Philip Lodge (11), Chris Cardoso (6), Kaylab Silva (4) and Manny Oliveira (4) led Run & Gun while C-Town was led by Joey Pires (21), Emoni Vicente (12), Evandro Teixeira (8), Andy Pontes (5) and David Decard (5). In the next game the Bullets needed overtime to defeat the Cavs 49-47. The Bullets were led by Jonge DaSilva (21), Brendan MacDonald (12), Dwayne Harper (6), Daniel Santos (6) and Johnathon Lopes (4). The Cavs, who played terrific defense, were led by Tyrik Jackson (22), Paul Lewis (11), David Turner (7), Jason Gomes (5) and Julian DelSolar (2). In the first of two semi-final games it was Run & Gun rallying from a half-time deficit to pull out a 76-69 win over the Tsunami. Max Barbosa (40), Daquan Hardy (11), Philip Lodge (8), Chris Cardoso (8), Kaylab Silva (5) and Michael Montrond (4) led Run & Gun while the Tsunami were led by David Harrison (21), Connor Deegan (14), Casey Dean (11), Damion Lugay (10), Ryan Roach (9) and T.J. Vasquez (4). In the second game the Bullets edged out Brooks by a score of 55-49. The Bullets were led by Brendan MacDonald (22), Jonge DaSilva (11), Johnathon Lopes (10), Akil Sneed (8) and Dwayne Harper (4) while Tyrell Pugh (22), Nick Simpson (14), Eduardo DeLeon (11) and Mazinho Correia (2) led Brooks. This set up Run & Gun and the Bullets to play for the championship. This was a terrific game as Run & Gun opened up a big lead, the Bullets came back to even the score and then Run & Gun regained it’s footing and pulled away late for a 75-64 victory. Run & Gun was led by Max Barbosa (29), Daquan Hardy (22), Michael Montrond (8), Philip Lodge (7), Chris Cardoso (6) and Kaylab Silva (3) while the Bullets were paced on offense by Brendan MacDonald (18), Jonge DaSilva (17), Akil Sneed (16), Dwayne Harper (11) and Johnathon Lopes (2).
