All-star floor hockey and a chance for kids to get "social"

Our Denney Center Unit, which is located in the Harbor Point Housing complex, offers drop-in activities for ages 5 to 18. The after-school drop-in program offers activities from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. for ages 5-12 while members ages 13-18 can attend from 6 to 9 p.m. During the afternoon portion of the program members can take part in Art Classes, the U-Mass Tutoring program, and a variety of small group clubs such as Healthy Lifestyles, Cooking Club, Girls Group and Boys Group. In addition, the Patriot’s Kids Café program provides a hot, nutritious meal each afternoon. In the evening hours our teen members can join the Keystone Club Leadership program, Philosophy Club, play sports at the McCormack gym or be part of the Career Prep employment program. There are also small group activities, field trips, and extended hours during the approaching school vacation break. Upcoming programs at the Center include our Winter Wonderland (12/9), a teen Christmas shopping trip to the Wrentham Outlets (12/16), our Christmas Family Dinner (12/21), the teen Christmas Party (12/22) and our Christmas Party for ages 5-12 (12/23). In addition to the programs listed above we also offer a monthly Parents Forum, teen Munch & Mingle and inter-active programs with our other Clubhouse locations. All-Star Floor Hockey Program
The two All-Star Floor Hockey teams at the Club are nearing the completion of regular season play and hoping to advance to their respective play-off tournaments. The Girls 14 & under All-Stars played a home and home series with the South Boston Boys and Girls Club, losing at home 3-2 but following that up with a 9-0 win on the road. Scoring for the Lady Colonels in the home loss was Jamila Barros (2 goals), while on the road win it was the trio of Jasmine Castro (3 goals), Khalilah Evora (3 goals) and Jamila Barros (3 goals). The final regular season game on the schedule will see the team hosting the Charlestown Boys and Girls Club on 11/29. The 13 & under Boys team hosted the Salesian Boys and Girls Club of East Boston last week, capturing a 5-3 victory. Scoring for the Colonels were Walter Dew-Hollis (1 goal), Le-Zhan DosSantos (1 goal), Bryan DeLaCruz (1 goal), Pedro Lopes (1 goal) and Philip Chomicki (1 goal). Up next on the schedule for the Boys team will be games against the South Boston, Nashua, NH and Waltham Clubs to close out the regular season. If both teams qualify, they will begin their respective play-off tournament games in the beginning of December. Social Recreation Program News
The Social Recreation program is for members ages 5 to 12, and is based out of the Marr Clubhouse Gamesroom. Social Recreation offers a variety of drop-in activities, group games, outdoor activities, field trips, holiday events and more. Currently, we are offering five group clubs for members to join: The Girls Group (ages 10-12 on Wednesdays); Torch Club (ages 10-12 on Wednesdays); Girls Scouts (Daisies for ages 5-7 & Brownies for ages 8-10 on Wednesdays); Boys Group (ages 10-12 on Thursdays); and the off-site Fencing Club (ages 8-12 on Saturday mornings). Social Recreation is also the home to many of our upcoming events around the holidays. On 12/4, 40 Club members will travel to the Tewksbury Country Club to take part in the Annual Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation Christmas Party. This will be followed by our on-site Christmas Party scheduled for 12/23. Thanks to the support of many groups and individuals, each child attending the Party will leave with a gift. Other upcoming events within Social Recreation include a trip to the Frog Pond for Ice Skating (11/30), fitting sessions for our 150-member Ski trip to Shawnee Peak (12/5 & 12/6) and our Patriot’s Kids Café Family Christmas Dinner (12/21). In addition to these special events, weeknights between 4:45 – 6:00 p.m., members are invited to enjoy a hot, nutritious meal through our Patriot’s Kids Café program which is offered in partnership with The Greater Boston Food Bank. The Kids Café program is open to all registered members at no cost with applications included in each child’s membership.
