Savin Hill Baseball League Registration
The Savin Hill Baseball League will be holding registration for the 2011 season on Saturday, February 26th, from 10 to 2 at the Club. Parents can register children for T-Ball (5 & 6 Year olds), Major B (7 to 9 year olds), Major A (10 to 12 year olds), and after a one-year hiatus, Teen League is back! (13 to 15 year olds). Residents from all over Dorchester are encouraged to participate. Registration fees for the upcoming year are tentatively scheduled to be: T-Ball - $50, Major B and Major A - $60 and Teen League - $60. Parents should note that the Club will be hosting Spring Training and Try-out dates in March. Savin Hill Baseball League participants who wish to participate in the Spring Training program must be registered members of the Boys & Girls Club. All members of Savin Hill Baseball will be required to bring birth certificates for proof of age. Intramural Basketball Program
The 14-team Winter Intramural Basketball program has completed week number four of regular season play with six games held over three days. On Thursday, the first of three games in the Boys Low Rim division saw the Celtics defeat the Lakers 31-28. Miles McKinney (20) and Deijon Holmes (8) led the Celtics while Tyler Wright (7) and Josh Herron (7) led the Lakers. In the second game the Bulls, behind De’Andre Dew-Hollis (12) and Kevin Zarnoch (5) defeated the Hawks 26-23. Leading the offense for the Hawks were Alaji Mansaray (8), Declan Traphagen (6) and Bellami Howell (6). In the final game of the evening it was the Knicks defeating the Pistons 13-6. Freddie DePina (7) led the Knicks while the Pistons were led by Jumarie Borden (6). Current standings have the Lakers, Bulls and Celtics all tied for first place at 3-1 followed by the Knicks at 2-2, Hawks at 1-3 and the Pistons at 0-4. On Friday afternoon the lone game in the Girls Low Rim division saw the Warriors top the Clippers 12-3. The Warriors were led by Abby Connolly (6), Jasmine Castro (4) and Thalia Cruz (2) while the Clippers were led by twins Michana Smith (2) and Micha Smith (1). After four weeks of play the standings have the Warriors and Rockets tied for first place at 3-1, followed by the Mavericks at 2-2, and the Clippers at 0-4. On Saturday morning, the first of two games in the 14 & under division saw the Sixers defeat the Nuggets 44-16. David Watkins (14) and Andronique DosSantos (9) led the Sixers while Alberto Monteiro (6) and Giovanni DePina (5) led the Nuggets. In the second game the Cavs, behind the duo of Cedric Correia (17) and Jeffrey Herron (12), defeated the Pacers 46-42. The Pacers were led by the trio of Devante Teixeira (16), Ralph Jean-Baptiste (11) and Zelito Pina (10). Standings for the division finds the Sixers and Cavs tied for first place at 3-1 followed by the Nuggets at 2-2 and the Pacers at 0-4. February School Vacation Week
The Club will be closed on Monday, February 21st in honor of President’s Day then will re-open for the February School Vacation Week on Tuesday, February 22nd through Saturday, February 26th with hours from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for members ages 8 to 12. Our Teen members will be offered a 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. schedule (excluding Saturday). To accommodate the new schedule, the Kids Café program will offer breakfast at 9 a.m. and lunch at 1 p.m. to pre-registered members. Please note that hours for our Bantam members (ages 6 & 7) will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Parents, please remember that all Bantams will need to be picked up promptly at 1 p.m. or immediately after participating in the Kids Café program. Special events for the week include: an Education program trip to see Storyteller, Valerie Tutson (2/22), a Denney Center trip to the Frog Pond for Ice Skating (2/22), phone-in registration for the City of Boston Summer Jobs program (2/22-2/25), a joint project with Lowe’s Home Improvement Stores and our Licensed After-School Care program (2/23), a trip to see “Mary Poppins” at the Colonial Theater (2/24), a visit from the SMILE Initiative Dental Services program (2/25), the Keystone Club Cultural Fair (2/26) and the Marr-lin Swim Team at the Worcester Invitational Meet (2/26).
