Summer's over, get ready for football!

Intramural Flag Football Program

The 8-team Intramural Flag Football program has completed another week of regular season play with four games played this past week. In the two games for the Junior division held this past Saturday, the Cowboys pulled out a 54-44 win over the Redskins. The Cowboys were led by Tyler Wright (4 TD’s), Joseph Norman (1 TD), Kalani Matra (1 TD) and Abby Connolly (1 TD) while Octavius Nunes (3 TD’s), Mischaliz Melo (2 TD’s) and Armani Monteiro (1 TD) led the Redskins. In the second game the Eagles, behind the offense of Bryan DeLaCruz (1 TD), Tyrhe Leggett (1 TD), Luis Rodrigues (1 TD), and Carlos Robalo (1 TD) defeated the Giants by a score of 28-14. Leading the offense for the Giants were Deijon Holmes (1 TD) and Jamarie Borden (1 TD). The Defensive Players of the Week were Aaron Lee (Giants) and Mischaliz Melo (Redskins) while the Offensive Players of the Week were Tyler Wright (Cowboys) and Tyrhe Leggett (Eagles). That leaves the current regular season standings with the Cowboys and Eagles at 1-0 and the Giants and Redskins at 0-1. In the second week of regular season play for the 4-team Senior division, which plays on Monday evenings, the Bears defeated the Cardinals in the opener 86-70. The Bears were led by Terrell Davis (4 TD’s), Danny Lopes (3 TD’s), Maxwell Spinola (3 TD’s) and Alberto Monteiro (2 TD’s) while the Cardinals were led by Walter Dew-Hollis (4 TD’s), Andronique DosSantos (4 TD’s), Joaquim Andrade (1 TD) and Pedro Lopes (1 TD). In the second game the Eagles topped the Falcons by a score of 50-48. Danny Alves (3 TD’s), Morris Barnes (3 TD’s) and Bernard Barbosa (1 TD) led the Eagles while Zelito Pina (3 TD’s), Richard Davis (1 TD), Paul Lewis (1 TD), Roody Charitable (1 TD) and Dante Lopes (1 TD) led the Falcons. The Defensive Players of the Week were Joaquim Andrade (Cardinals) and Paul Lewis (Falcons) while the Offensive Players of the Week were Danny Alves (Eagles) and Danny Lopes (Bears). Current standings have the Eagles and Bears tied at 2-0 and the Cardinals and Falcons tied at 0-2.

Teen Program News

The Teen program, which is based out of the Paul R. McLaughlin Clubhouse has options for drop-in activities, small group clubs, trips, workshops, leadership programs and the Career Prep employment program. Weekdays after school the Center is open from 2:00 – 8:00 p.m. to members ages 13-18 with board games, table games, computers and video games. For those interested in small group clubs we offer a Girls group, a Boys Group, and a newly started Latin Dance Class that meet weekly. Upcoming workshops for teens include Mock Interviews (10/27) and Financial Literacy (11/2), both of which will be led by volunteers from the State Street Corporation. Upcoming trips include Roller Skating on 10/14 and a bus trip to the Six Flags Fright Fest for 50 members on 10/29. Please note that the Six Flags trip is invitation only. The Keystone Club, our teen leadership program is in the process of inducting new members and will be holding elections for officers in the coming weeks. The group is also planning a Canned Goods Drive for November and service projects with a number of non-profits. Lastly, the Career Prep program is working with the Boston Youth Fund After-School employment program and will be accepting applications through 10/21.

Social Recreation Program

The Social Recreation program is for members ages 5 to 12, and is based out of the Marr Clubhouse Gamesroom. Social Recreation offers a variety of drop-in activities, group games, outdoor activities, field trips, holiday events and more. Currently, we are offering five group clubs for members to join: The Girls Group (ages 10-12 on Wednesdays); Torch Club (ages 10-12 on Wednesdays); Girls Scouts (Daisies for ages 5-7 & Brownies for ages 8-10 on Wednesdays); Boys Group (ages 10-12 on Thursdays); and the off-site Fencing Club (ages 8-12 on Saturday mornings). Upcoming trips include the Circus on 10/15 and the Inter-Club Bombardment Tournament in Stoneham on 10/22, while our October special event will be the Halloween Party on 10/31.
