Tons of December activities - don't get left in the cold!

December Program Highlights

The month of December will be a busy one, with a large number of special events in all program areas. In our Athletic program all four divisions of the 18-team Intramural Floor Hockey program will conclude with championship games as follows: 10&U Boys (12/1), 14&U Boys (12/3), 10&U Girls (12/9) and 18&U Co-ed (12/16).

One other important date on the schedule includes the Registration for the Winter Athletics program (12/17) which will include Basketball (Clinic & Intramural programs) and Gymnastics. During the registration we will be hosting a drop-in Basketball Jamboree with skill competitions, contests and prizes. Our two All-Star Floor Hockey teams have also qualified for the post-season tournament and await upcoming first round matches against Billerica (Girls) and South Boston (Boys).

In our Aquatic program the second session of Swim Lessons will continue meeting weekly (excluding the Christmas break) while the Marr-lin Swim Team will continue their dual-meet schedule with meets against the Woburn Club (12/3), the Lawrence Club (12/10) and the Taunton Club (12/17).

At our Walter Denney Clubhouse located in Harbor Point we will host our Parents Forum (12/8), Winter Wonderland Event (12/9), the monthly Munch & Mingle (12/14), a trip to the Wrentham Outlets (12/16) and our Christmas Party (12/23) for ages 5 to 12. Vacation week (12/27 to 12/30) hours at the Center will be 9:00-5:00 p.m. (ages 5-12) and 5:00-9:00 p.m. (teens). In our Social Recreation program the Outdoor Adventure Club will take a hiking trip to the Blue Hills (12/3), transport 40 members to the Annual Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation Christmas Party at the Tewksbury Country Club (12/4), and host fitting sessions (12/5 & 12/6) for our 150-member outing to Shawnee Peak in January. We will also host a trip to the Frog Pond for Ice Skating (12/17), as well as our Annual Christmas Parties for members ages 5 to 12 (12/23). Our Patriot’s Kids Café, offered in partnership with the Greater Boston Food Bank and Feeding America, offers a hot, nutritious meal weeknights beginning at 4:45 p.m.

During December we will host a special Christmas Family Dinner (12/21) and offer an afternoon meal during the school break on days the Club is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. In our Education program Homework Help will continue right up through the school break and One-to-One Tutoring pairings will continue to meet weekly. Special events include the kick-off of the “Gods, Goths & Gladiators” (12/2) series, a weekly, inter-active workshop for teens that explores history, a trip to see “A Christmas Carol” (12/5) and the start of the Mad Science program (12/12). During the vacation week there will be Outdoor Explorers (12/27), a trip to the J.F.K. Library (12/28), Kitchen Chemistry (12/29) and a trip to the Aquarium (12/30).

In our Arts program our Winter session of Fine Arts classes will begin the week of 12/5. We will also host two trips for the Gallery Art Class (12/12 & 12/27), a trip to see “The Nutcracker” at the Strand Theater (12/22) and begin collecting works from members of our Fine Arts and Photography classes to be part of the local exhibit of Boys and Girls Clubs of America’s National Fine Arts & Photography exhibits. In our Music Clubhouse the final class for the ongoing Jazz Boston Riffs & Raps Class will take place on 12/5 and we will host our monthly Open Mic Night (12/16). Lastly, in our Teen program look for a trip to see the Tree Lighting & to go Ice Skating at Boston Common (12/1), a trip to a U-Mass Boston Women’s Basketball Game (12/7), a trip to Laser Craze (12/9), a trip to Boston Bowl (12/16), Gender Battle (12/20) and our Teen Christmas Party for all three locations (12/22).

The 30+ participants in the Career Prep Jobs program, including those working in partnership with the Boston Youth Fund, will continue to assist Director’s with program delivery. Meanwhile, the Teen members of the Keystone Club will be volunteering at the Celebration of Giving (12/3), the Boston Medical Center Back-Pack program for Foster Kids (12/6), and helping out at Christmas in the City (12/17). The Keystone Club will also host 5 Clubs (Lowell, Haverhill, Woburn, Waltham & Worcester) at an inter-Club Scavenger Hunt (12/29). To close out the month, the Club will adjust our operating hours to a 9:00 – 4:30 a.m. schedule for our 5-12 year old members during the Christmas School vacation. Please note that Bantam members (ages 6 & 7) will be able to attend from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. while our teen hours will be from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. These hours will be in effect from 12/27 to 12/30.
