2012 Fall Program

Beginning on 8/1 we will begin accepting registrations for our 2012 Fall program. Programs that will be included in the registration are Intramural Flag Football (2 divisions), Intramural Floor Hockey (4 divisions), All-Star Floor Hockey (2 teams), Beginner Gymnastics, the Marr-lin Swim Team, Swim Lessons, One-to-One Tutoring, College Bound, S.A.T. & I.S.E.E. Prep Classes, afternoon Fine Arts Classes for ages 5-12 along with more advanced classes in the evening hours for ages 10 and older. We will also register for Music Lessons, Music Ensemble, Music Songwriting Class, Kids Cafe, small group Clubs in the Social Recreation program (Girls Group, Boys Group, Torch Club and Fencing Club), our new Film & Video program, and more. After hosting two off-site programs (Camp Northbound and Disney for Kids) at the end of August, along with a brief close-down period, the Club will be re-opening on Monday, September 10th at 2:00 p.m. for the school year program. Our operating hours for the Fall program will be Monday through Friday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Please note that our Denney Center Unit is closed on Saturdays and parents should contact the Club for specific hours their child may attend. The registration period is also a great time to tour the facilities, meet staff and to renew expired memberships. A one-year membership costs $5 while a family of two or more registering at the same time will pay no more than $10. August Program Highlights
The month of August will close out the summer program with a bang as we have many exciting activities planned for all age groups. In our day program, for members ages 5-12 at our Marr/McLaughlin Clubhouses, upcoming activities include: a visit from the Curious Creatures program (8/1), a Sand Art Workshop with the EXCEL Recycle Center (8/3), the second of a two week-long camp partnership with the Boston Police Department for 12 members in the Junior Police Academy (8/6-8/10), a trip to the Swan Boats (8/7), a Clinic with the Metro Lacrosse program (8/8), an on-site presentation by the New England Aquarium Outreach program (8/10), a bus trip to the New England Aquarium (8/10), the Irish Cultural Center Camp (8/13 to 8/17), a bus trip to Canobie Lake Park (8/13), and the session #2 ending Olympics Day (8/15). At our Denney Center Unit, located in Harbor Point, our daytime program serves ages 5 to 12 with the following special activities on the schedule: a bus trip to the Stoneham Zoo (8/2), a bus trip the New England Aquarium (8/8), and a summer ending Field Day (8/15). For our teen members taking part in the Safe Summer Streets XXIII program there are also a number of special events on tap including: the Annual Career Fair (8/1), the Summer Swim Team hosting the Watertown Boys and Girls Club (8/2), a bus trip to Six Flags (8/4), the College Alumni Night Cruise of Boston Harbor (8/8), the Summer Swim Team closing meet and family barbecue (8/9), the Music program Open Mic Night (8/10), the Semi-Formal Dance (8/14), and the championship games for all three divisions of the Safe Summer Streets Basketball League (8/15). So with on-site programming for the membership program concluding on 8/15 that does not mean the summer is over just yet. On 8/18, 150 members will board buses to take part in the 7th Annual Camp Northbound trip for a week of overnight camping in Maine. While in Maine, our members will take part in water sports, hikes, athletics, character building activities, arts and much more. The following week, from 8/27 to 8/31, a group of 150 youth and chaperones will travel to Walt Disney World in Florida on our 21st Annual Rodman Disney for Kids trip. Parents, please note that Club will be closed for our drop-in program from 8/16 to 9/9. The school-year drop-in program will return on 9/10 at 2:00 p.m. Meanwhile, our Licensed Early Education and Care programs will continue to operate throughout the month with the School-age program enjoying on-site activities and off-site bus trips 2 days per week while our Pre-School program will host a Family Fun Day Kindergarten Celebration (8/24). Please note that when our on-site Summer program concludes on 8/15, our Childcare program will remain open with full-day infant, toddler, pre-school and school-age care offered throughout all three locations. As a reminder, you must be pre-registered to take part in any of our licensed programs and vouchers are accepted.
