Career Fair

Career Fair

On August 1 the Club will be hosting a Career Fair for our teen members as part of the Safe Summer Streets program. We are expecting approximately 15 professionals to attend, including some Club Alumni, who will speak to teens about their careers, including how they got to their current position, their educational background, likes and dislikes of their jobs and advice to the teens as they move forward with school and career choices. The professionals will be grouped into panels of five and our teen participants will rotate around to see each panel during the night. Immediately afterwards, we will host everyone for a light dinner. This will provide an informal arena for any follow-up questions that may have arisen during the event. The Career Fair will be open to all teen members at no cost as well as to those taking part in the Career Launch Summer Jobs program. For more information please contact VP of Programming, Mike Joyce at ext. 2110.

Summer Program Partnerships

Throughout the Summer program the Club teams with our valued partners to provide on-site and off-site programming opportunities for members ages 5 to 18. This past week 10 members spent five days in Hinsdale, Mass. at the Dan Duquette Sports Academy thanks to our partnership with the Yawkey Foundation. Last week also kicked off a five-week program with the Massachusetts Golf Association (M.G.A.) that will see 10 members travel to Norton, Mass. to take part in Golf lessons. On Mondays throughout the summer we will see the Read Boston Storymobile visit the Club with Storytellers and free books for our youngest members. During the weeks of 7/16 and 7/23 the Massachusetts Youth Soccer Association (M.Y.S.A.) will host clinics from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Our daytime program participants will rotate through the clinic during their hourly schedule to take part in drills, competitions and scrimmages. Outstanding participants will receive a commemorative t-shirt. On 7/16 we hosted the B.U. Dance Collective program who put on a performance and followed that up with two dance workshops for 25 members each. On 7/25, the EXCEL Recycle Center will conduct a Sand Art Workshop for 20 members using all recycled materials. Both of these on-site workshops are made possible through the Associated Grantmakers of Massachusetts (A.G.M.) Cultural Day program. During the week of 8/6 we will partner with the Boston Police Department to host the Jr. Police Academy for 10 lucky members. During the week our members will vist law enforcement and recreational sites. Later in August, from 8/13 to 8/17 we will partner with the Irish Cultural Center to see our members attend their Children’s Celtic Camp. Registrations for ages 8-12 are currently being accepted. These opportunities are in addition to ongoing partnerships with The Greater Boston Food Bank for the Patriot’s Kids Café program, which provides breakfast, lunch and teen dinners each weekday and the Four Seasons Hotel, whose staff is assisting us with our summer Gardening program. For more information on our summer programs please contact Director of Program Development, Laurene Plourde at 617-288-7120, ext. 2111.
