Dorchester Yacht Club Hosts Members

This past week 40 Boys and Girls Club members were the guests of the Dorchester Yacht Club. Thanks to the leadership of Commodore Paul Polito and Captains Paul Phalan and Jack Donegan, and the generosity of 15 boat captains, our members enjoyed a 2+ hour tour of Boston Harbor. Our members, many of whom had never sailed prior, received great views of the harbor islands, incoming planes and the city skyline. After returning from their sail around the harbor, volunteers from the Yacht Club prepared burgers and hot dogs to go along with generously donated sandwiches from D’Angelos and Ice Cream from Savin Scoop. Our thanks to the members of the Dorchester Yacht Club for reaching out to the Club to offer this special summer activity for our grateful members.

Dignity U Wear Program Supports Summer Program

This Summer, the Club teamed with the Dignity U Wear program to provide clothing to members taking part in the Summer program. Dignity U Wear is a non-profit that works with a network of partners in the apparel industry to secure donated clothing that in turn is passed on to over 300 social service agencies across the country. These donations can include excess inventory, samples, IR’s, cancellations, logo overruns and seasonal merchandise. With a vast array of volunteers the donated clothing is sorted and shipped to recipient agencies. The Dignity U Wear program provided new shorts, shirts, swim suits, socks and under garments for our members. Our thanks to the staff and volunteers at Dignity U Wear for their efforts to support our members.

Club Members To Attend 21st Annual Disney Trip

Thanks to the leadership of Don Rodman, a member of the Club’s Board of Directors, and to the many generous supporters of his annual fundraising effort, 150 club members and chaperones will be attending Walt Disney World for a five-day, four-night trip at the end of August. This is the 21st year the trip has taken place and serves as a means to recognize outstanding participation, educational achievement, community service, sportsmanship and leadership within the Club, school and community. Trip stops will include the Magic Kingdom, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Hollywood Studios and Blizzard Beach. Like past years, the trip will include several of our partner youth agencies such as Boston Refugee Youth Enrichment (B.R.Y.E), the Brockton Boys and Girls Club, Project D.E.E.P., St. Peter’s Teen Center, the Leahy Holloran Community Center, Viet-Aid, Dorchester Youth Hockey, the Cleveland Community Center, the West End House Boys and Girls Club and Nativity Prep. Congratulations to all of the members selected to attend and thanks again to Don for making it all possible.
