July Program Highlights

The Summer program kicks-off on July 2nd and we will decorate the month with a number of special activities in all core program areas. The July 2nd date will also serve as the start of the Safe Summer Streets program for our teen members, who will have access to activities from 5:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on a Monday to Saturday schedule. The first of our 2, three-week sessions for the day-time summer program for members ages 5 to 12 will begin on July 2nd and will conclude on July 20th. Notable dates for the daytime program include: the start of the 5-week M.G.A. Golf program in Norton (7/3); 10 members attending the Dan Duquette Sports Academy Camp (7/8 to 7/13); the start of the 6-week Read Boston Storymobile (7/9); a trip to tour Fenway Park (7/10); a Denney Center bus trip to the Museum of Science (7/11); a trip for our Bantam (ages 5-7) members to the Puppet Showplace Theater (7/12); a trip to the Museum of Science (7/12); a performance and 2 workshops with the Dance Collective (7/16); the start of the 2-week Massachusetts Youth Soccer (M.Y.S.A.) Clinics (7/16); a trip to the Movies (7/18); a Denney Center bus trip to the Hanover Movie Theater (7/18); a bus trip to Canobie Lake Park (7/19); the session #1 closing Olympics (7/20); the start of session #2 (7/23); a trip to TD Banknorth Garden & the Sports Museum (7/23); a van trip to Taza Chocolate (7/25); and a Denney Center bus trip to the Carousel Family Fun Center (7/25). As for the Safe Summer Streets program for teens these are some of the events on tap: All-Star Basketball Game with the Boston Police Department (7/2); the start of the 16-team safe Summer Streets Basketball League (7/5); the first date in our new 6-week Yoga Class (7/5); the kick-off of the Career Prep Summer Jobs program (7/9); Summer Swim Team Practice Begins (7/10); Members of the Swim Team at the Bay State Games (7/13 to 7/15); The Rodman Disney for Kids Trip Orientation (7/16 or 7/17); a trip to Glass Blowing (7/20); the Project B.I.N.D Inclusion programs Life Skills Week (7/23 to 7/27); a Cyber Safety Workshop (7/24); our Senior Class Night event at U-Mass Boston (7/25); the Marilyn Rodman Theater for Kids trip to see “Billy Elliot” at the Opera House (/7/26); the Summer Swim Team visiting the Blue Hill Boys and Girls Club (7/26); and the monthly Open Mic Night for the Music program (7/27). Please note that members ages 6 to 12 must be pre-registered to take part in the Summer program while teen members can take part in activities six nights a week at the Marr Clubhouse on a drop-in basis. Summer Swim Programs

After offering try-outs for new swimmers this week and next, the Summer Swim Team begins practicing three evenings a week on July 10th. The Summer Swim Team is open to boys and girls ages 5 to 18 who can swim a minimum of 50 yards. Practices are held on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings with swimmers ages 10 & younger practicing at 6:00 p.m. and swimmers ages 11 and older practicing at 7:00 p.m. The team is made up of members of the school-year Marr-lin Swim Team, participants from the recently concluded Intramural Swim League and recreational swimmers from our summer program. The first scheduled meet will be on the road against the Blue Hill Club on 7/26. The season will conclude with a home meet followed by a team barbecue on 8/9. Other evening swims being offered include those for Project B.I.N.D. (Tuesdays and Thursdays), Family Swims (Mondays and Wednesdays) and Open Swims/Lessons for our teen members. Music Clubhouse Summer Lesson Program
The Music Clubhouse is flourishing with new and aspiring talent. This summer our Music Lesson program will continue with weekly one-to-one and small group music lessons. One-to-one lessons will meet once weekly while group lessons will meet twice weekly. Students will have the opportunity to further their knowledge on the Drum Set, Bass Guitar, Lead/Acoustic Guitar, Voice, and Piano. Participants will work on reading music, musicianship, and much more. Please note the lesson program requires pre-registration and a commitment to attend each session.
