November Program Highlights

The month of November looks to be a busy one as we have special events scattered all over our core programs areas.

In the Aquatic program, the members of the Marr-lin Swim Team will continue practicing four evenings a week in preparation for upcoming meets against the Waltham (11/3), Woburn (11/10) and Billerica (11/17) Clubs. Meanwhile, the Swim Lesson program will wrap-up session #1 and begin a new session of classes this month for members ages 3 to 18. There will also be open, activity, Family Swims and Project B.I.N.D. swims scattered throughout the weekly schedule.

In our Education program, in addition to weekly Tutoring and our drop-in Homework Help program (Monday – Thursday), we will host a trip to the Boston College SPLASH experience (11/5), two Job Shadow Days for teens with the State Street Corporation (11/8 & 11/9), and an information session for High School Juniors and their parents with the Bottom Line program (11/28). Meanwhile weekly small group programs such as Reading Buddies (mon.), Chess Club (mon.), Scratch Computer Programming and Animation (tues.), Writer’s Workshop (wed.), Bantam Hour (thurs.), Film Critique (thurs.), and Theme Day Fridays will continue through the month.

In our Athletic program, our four Intramural Floor Hockey leagues will continue regular season play through the month before heading into post-season play. The Intramural Flag Football program will continue regular season play for both divisions through December. Our two All-Star Floor Hockey teams will continue to play home and away games against Clubs from the region while the Girls and Boys High School Basketball Clinics will wrap-up on 11/8 and 11/18 respectively. In addition, the Gymnastics Class will host a session-ending recital for family and friends (11/26), while try-outs for our Winter All-Star Basketball teams will be held as follows: Boys 12 & under (11/14), Girls 14 & under (11/19), Boys 15 & under (11/15) and Boys 18 & under (11/24). In the Social Recreation program we will host a Gamesroom Talent Show (11/2), the Outdoor Adventure Club will go on a hike (11/10), and we will host registration for those members invited to the Shawnee Peak Ski Trip (11/17) in January. The Patriot’s Kids Café program offers a hot, nutritious meal, weeknights for ages 5 to 18 and will host their Annual Thanksgiving Family Dinner on 11/14. Members are encouraged to bring family members.

In the Fine Arts program the first session of Fall classes has wrapped up with a second session of classes now underway which include: Beginning Digital Photography, Cartooning, Photography, Art Explorations, Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Jewelry Making, Art Sampler, Printmaking, T-Shirt Design, Recycled Art and Plaster Fun. The new Film program will move into it’s new space in the McLaughlin Center this month and will continue to meet on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. Lastly, the Fine Arts program, in partnership with the Marilyn Rodman Theater for Kids program, will be hosting a day-long trip for 50 members and chaperones to New York City to see “Spiderman” at the Foxwoods Theater (11/10).

In the Teen program members of the Keystone Club will host a Canned Goods Drive throughout the month as well as volunteer with The Greater Boston Food Bank (11/7) and the Good Sports program (11/14). Members are also hoping to be represented at the upcoming Regional Keystone Conference being held in Boston (11/30 to 12/2). The Career Prep program will be processing 20 teen staff (11/6) enrolled in the Boston Youth Fund’s After-School employment program who will begin working on 11/26. The Teen program will also host a trip to the Patriots Game on 11/18. In the Music Clubhouse look for the Lesson program (voice, bass, piano, drums, guitar) to continue meeting through the month. In addition there are various open times offered for members ages 10 & older to experiment on the instruments, or practice during non-lesson times, as well as our Music Council and Friday Night Theme Nights, including our Open Mic Night on 11/16.

At our Denney Center Unit located in Harbor Point we will hold our Patriot’s Kids Café Family Dinner and Parents Forum (11/14), the teen Munch & Mingle (11/15), and field trips to the Movies (11/16) and Roller Skating (11/30). This is in addition to ongoing programs such as U-Mass Tutoring, Philosophy Club, the Patriot’s Kids Café, McCormack Gym, Art Classes and our new Fabulous Fridays with the McCormack School.
