Two Dorchester teens, allegedly
implicated in a botched robbery and ensuing car
chase with police over the weekend, were arraigned
this week in Dorchester District Court.
Vasco Dosantos, 19, and Claudino
Correia, 20, on Tuesday were charged with intent to
rob while armed, unlawful possession of a firearm,
assault and battery charges, and more. Both are
co-defendants in a separate court case.
Investigating shots fired near
Annapolis Street at about 2:37 a.m. on Saturday,
officers noticed a blue pick-up truck heading up
Sumner Street, going the wrong way.
The truck didn't stop for the
officers, taking a left and right before turning
onto Pleasant Street and throwing a gun out the
window, according to police.
The truck then wrapped itself
around a pole on Sumner, after which the two
suspects fled down Willis Street. Both were caught,
with the second suspect found hiding under a Dawes
Street porch, police say.
An alleged robbery victim later
approached the officers, saying that Correia
grabbed him by the jacket and told him, "Give me
what you got," police said. After the victim
resisted, Correia told Dosantos to get a gun from
the car.
The victim then took off his
belt and hit both of them with it, leading to
Correia getting a razor and jumping at him, cutting
him, the police said.
Prosecutors said Correia, the
driver, has a two-page criminal record, adding that
in the chase, as he attempted to evade the police,
he "put the public in danger."
John Guglielmi, Correia's
attorney, noted that the twenty-year-old had been
showing up to trial dates and has no other firearms
cases other than the one at Boston Municipal
Court.
With Dosantos, prosecutors said
he has a three-page juvenile record and four open
cases, including two in Cambridge District Court
and one in Dorchester. All cases remain open, they
said.
Judge Sydney Hanlon ordered that
Dosantos be detained and Correia's bail be revoked
on the other cases. Their next court date, at
Boston Municipal Court, is set for Dec. 6.
Dot man held on $2K bail for
role in hold-up
A Dorchester man was held on
$2,000 bail for his alleged involvement in
attempted robbery of a man who was walking with his
five-month-old daughter and the child's mother.
Frank Roberto, 19, was accused
of participating in an attempted hold-up near
Harvard Street and Bernard Street. His next court
date is Dec. 10.
The Nov. 8 incident, which
occurred around 2:14 p.m., involved two other
males. The victim told officers that he had been
accosted by the three males, one of whom told him,
"Either you come here now or something is gonna go
down in front of your baby," according to the
police report.
The three attempted to stick him
with knives as he tried to get away from them. They
also took his watch and attempted to get his ring,
the police report says.
Two of them had guns in their
pants, with one yelling, "Just shoot him,"
according to the report.
The victim then tried to flee
into Gigi's Liquors, holding the door shut so the
others couldn't follow. While he was inside, one of
the suspects ordered another to bring the baby's
mother around the corner and "shoot her, leave her
baby," the report says.
The three then decided to leave
the area without further incident.
Suffolk jury to start
deliberations in West Selden St. case
After a six-day trial, Suffolk
Superior Court jury will likely start deliberations
this week in the re-trial of a Hyde Park male,
charged with shooting a South End resident on West
Selden Street.
Prosecutors told jurors on
Tuesday that Omar Denton, 23, killed Cedric
Phillips in July 2004 after an earlier party and
after Denton allegedly beat up Phillips'
girlfriend.
The second attempt at a trial
comes after a mistrial due to jurors being unable
to reach a unanimous verdict earlier this year.
Another man allegedly involved in the murder, Nigel
Nichols, 22, will be tried separately later for his
role in the shooting.
