February Kid and Teen Programs at Lower Mills Library

ABC Story Time: Tuesday, February 4 @ 10:30a.m.
Come to the library for ABC Preschool Story Time. We will read stories, sing songs, dance, and play and make crafts. This program is appropriate for children ages 6 and younger. Large groups please register with Ms. Angela.

Toddler Circle Time: Wednesday, February 5 @ 10:30a.m.
Bring your toddlers to the Lower Mills Branch for Circle Time. Children will enjoy stories, songs and rhymes. Appropriate for children ages three and younger, but all children are welcome. Large groups, please register

Friday Preschool Films presents Why Mosquitoes Buzz in People’s Ears:
Friday, February 7 @ 10:30a.m.
Come to Lower Mills Branch library to enjoy short preschool films based on well known picture books. Large groups must register with the Ms. Angela.

Doll Making Workshop: Wednesday, February 12 @ 10:30a.m.
Come to the Lower Mills Branch to make your own African Wrap doll with Doll E. Daze. Participants are lead in the design and construction of an African wrap doll based on techniques from the traditional art form and updated to include the use of recycled materials.

Gaming Wednesdays: Wednesday, February 12 @ 3:00 p.m.
Kids and teens can choose from a selection of Wii games and board games to play.
Board games were generously donated by Meetinghouse Bank and Scherer Photography.

Valentine’s Day Craft and Candy Party: Friday, February 14 @ 3:30 p.m.
Come to Lower Mills Branch library to make crafts and treats.

Colonial Clothing with the Pierce House: Tuesday, February 18 @ 1:00 p.m.
Students compare clothing that they wear today to clothing the colonists wore in the past as they explore images of kids in colonial clothing and samples of fabrics. One boy and one girl dress up in reproduction clothing, and all of the children make colonial paper dolls.

Yoga for Kids & Teens with Ms. Jennifer: February 20 @ 4:00 p.m.
Participate in fun yoga workshop at the Lower Mills Branch. Ms. Jennifer will demonstrate basic yoga techniques for kids and teens.
Yoga workshop is limited to 20 participants. Please call and register with Ms. Angela.

Citi Performing Arts Center Presents Kadir Nelson’s “I HAVE A DREAM”
Saturday, February 22 @ 1:30 P.M.
Citi Performing Arts Center Teaching Artist, Toni Bee, will perform an interactive reading of Kadir Nelson’s “I HAVE A DREAM” picture book of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s namesake speech. This Program is appropriate for children 3-10 years. Large groups, please register.

Black History Month Teen Writing Workshop: February 24, 4:00
What does Black History mean to you? What does it mean today? Share your story with other teens. Local author and activist Terry Carter will facilitate a lively conversation and teens will create their own poetry or prose to read aloud.

Celebrate Black History Month with Music: Thursday, February 27 @ 4 pm
Renowned tubaist, trombonist, performer, composer and educator Bill Lowe brings Black History Month alive for children through music. Most suited for children ages 6 and up.

Kid’s Book Club Reads Leon’s Story: Friday, February 28 @ 3:30 p.m.
Leon Tillage grew up in a small town in North Carolina. Leon walked miles to go to a school for black children, was forced to sit in the balcony at the movies, and hid from Klansmen. Through a series of vignettes, learn about Leon life in the segregated south.
