Parishioners
weigh Catholic schools fate
in
series of
meetings
Cardinal Sean
O'Malley is poised to close up to four of the eight
remaining Catholic grammar schools in Dorchester as part of
a reorganization project called the 2010 Initiative. Church
leaders and others hope that by regionalizing and
strengthening the remaining schools they can halt the steady
erosion of Catholic education in Boston's largest
neighborhood. In a week-long series of parish-by-parish
briefings that began on Tuesday, parents and parishioners
got a first-hand look at the various formulas for
consolidation that will be presented to the Cardinal for his
final decision, which will come by November 30.
