Savin Hill treasure fetches big bucks at auction

This portrait of a young Edward Reed Dorr hung in a Savin Hill home owned by the Dorr family for over 100 years. In August, it was "discovered" by a Boston auction house and, last week, it sold amid furious bidding for $866,000.

Reports document PCB problem in Neponset River
Two government commissioned reports that will be released next month will give a new window into a long-feared problem: PCBs - the remnants of decades-old industrial waste - continue to contaminate the Neponset River, endangering marine life and posing a health risk to people who might consume certain fish from the river. As the state's Dept. of Environmental Protection searches for the original sources of the pollution, the new research is likely to focus renewed attention on two Boston dams, including the Baker Dam in Lower Mills, where the contamination is concentrated.
