![]() Thursday, March 6, 2008 BREAKING NEWS Coakley report: Acute inpatient care "may not be" Carney's future In a highly anticipated report released this morning, Attorney General Martha Coakley recommends that the Archdiocese of Boston "should relinquish control over strategic, operational, and financial matters [at Carney Hospital and other Caritas hospitals] to the independent Board of Governors. Coakley also suggests that Carney Hospital has "been in a precarious position for decades" and says that "acute medical-surgical inpatient hospital care may not be the appropriate future for Carney." Feeney: "Unconvinced" that Carney should move away from acute care In a statement responding to AG Coakley's report today, City Council President Maureen Feeney voiced concerns about some of Coakley's key recommendations for the future of Carney Hospital. Dot's mighty Mites take state championship throne ![]() The Mite 1 team of Dorchester Youth Hockey won the district one state championship on Feb. 21, defeating a tough South Boston team, 4-2. The DYH squad, under the tutelage of Coach Anthony Hennessey and Coach Paul McCarthy, began their championship quest during school vacation week with wins against Winthrop (10-1) and Charlestown (6-3). Standout play by goaltender Max Hennessy helped anchor the week of victories. The whole team contributed to the championship drive: Quinn McCarthy - who had six goals in a stellar effort against Winthrop - Declan Fitzgerald, Brendan Mannion, William Penella, John Connolly, Ryan Joyce, Kyle Pizzarella, Andrew McDonough, Cullen Burke, Sean Mannion and Jack McCarthy. After the big win against Southie, the team celebrated their victory with a pizza party at Blasi Café, which sponsors the team.
