Boston students and schools are invited to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee program through the 6th Annual BCYF Spelling Bee. Boston students of public, charter, pilot, and parochial schools as well as home-schooled students are eligible to participate in BCYF’s Bee this spring only after they have won a Bee held at a Boston school. In addition to improving students’ spelling skills and broadening their vocabulary, Spelling Bee participation provides valuable experience in developing self-confidence—a necessary skill for success in public speaking and performing arts. Boston Irish Wolfhounds Youth (7-15) Rugby
Rugby is one of the fastest growing youth sports in America, and at this program kids from ages 7-15 will learn ball handling, passing, and kicking skills, along with offensive and defensive strategies. Registration for the 2012 Fall House League for Dorchester Youth Soccer has begun. The last day for registration is June 30, 2012. Registration for one child costs $50, for two children $90 and for a family $105.
This year DYS will provide the game shirt and socks for each child. Each child will need black shorts, shin guards and cleats. The season will begin on Sunday, September 9, 2012. Read more
An essay contest sponsored by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester has a big pay-off for young football fans: Their winning entry could get them a chance to play on the field at Gillette Stadium with Tedy Bruschi on June 20. Savin Hill Little League offers four divisions of baseball for youths ages 5-15 at McConnell Park in Savin Hill. 2012 Spring Training is held on Sundays— March 4, 11 and 18— at the Boys & Girls Club gym on Deer Street. Parents can register their children for the 2012 season of Cedar Grove Baseball beginning next Friday, March 2 at one of two local elementary schools. The baseball league — which plays on city fields at Dorchester Park and Ventura Park in Lower Mills— begins with T-Ball for boys and girls age 5 and extends up to a senior division, for those at least 13 years of age.
