Essay contest prize is on-field play at Gillette Stadium

An essay contest sponsored by the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester has a big pay-off for young football fans: Their winning entry could get them a chance to play on the field at Gillette Stadium with Tedy Bruschi on June 20. The contest is open today through May 11. Entries should be 3-5 paragraphs in length on the importance of teamwork. Essays should be submitted to Emily Capurso at ecapurso@bgcdorchester.org. Registration for Savin Hill Little League

Savin Hill Little League offers four divisions of baseball for youths ages 5-15 at McConnell Park in Savin Hill. 2012 Spring Training is held on Sundays— March 4, 11 and 18— at the Boys & Girls Club gym on Deer Street. Mandatory tyouts will be held on March 24-25 at the Boys and Girls Club. Players must be registered by March 17. See this website for the details.

Cedar Grove Baseball sign-ups underway this weekend

Parents can register their children for the 2012 season of Cedar Grove Baseball beginning next Friday, March 2 at one of two local elementary schools. The baseball league — which plays on city fields at Dorchester Park and Ventura Park in Lower Mills— begins with T-Ball for boys and girls age 5 and extends up to a senior division, for those at least 13 years of age.  Read more

We read Big Red Barn and discuss what kinds of animals the Pierces would have kept on their farm and what types of food, labor, and products the farmers would get from each animal. Dorchester residents in the 3rd through 6th grade or students that attend a Dorchester
school. Two (2) prizes will be awarded to the drawings that are chosen from a
panel of local judges. Please fill out the registration form below and mail it with your

Homework tutors sought for Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester are in need of tutors to assist children in grades K-12 who need homework assistance after school for 1-2 hours per week. Tutors need not be teachers or “experts” in a subject. High school students can fulfill their community service hours through our tutoring program. Sign-ups for ADSL baseball, softball leagues

The All Dorchester Sports League (A.D.S.L.) will be hosting registration for the 2012 Spring/Summer Girls Softball programs beginning on Monday, February 13th from 4 to 7 p.m. Registration will continue on the following dates: 2/14, 2/20, 2/21, 2/27, 3/5 and 3/6. Dorchester Youth Soccer plans Spring house league

Dorchester Youth Soccer will be offering a Spring house league for boys and girls in Kindergarten through Grade 2. We will play on Sunday mornings at Pope John Paul Park beginning in late April running through mid June. There will be no scheduled games on Memorial Day Weekend. There will be two age groups offered. The first group will be the U-6 Clinic program and the other group will be U-8 for first and second graders. If you have a child born between 9/1/03 and 12/31/07 they are eligible to participate this spring.  Read more

Public skate hours begin at Devine Rink

The Devine Skating Rink in Neponset — which is owned and managed by the state’s Department of Conservation and Recreation— began regular public skating hours last Friday. Open skate times include: Tuesday & Thursday 1:30 -2:30 p.m., Friday 7 -8:50 p.m., Saturday 7 -8:50 p.m. and Sunday 2- 3:50 p.m. Call the rink at 617-436-4356 for more information.
