The second and third grade girls at the Mather School in Dorchester are looking for at least two, fun, enthusiastic volunteers to run a Girl Scout Brownie troop after school on Fridays beginning in January. The Mattapan Patriots will be offering a winter sports programs at the Mattahunt Wheelock Community Center for children who want to develop athletically, skillfully and personally. The program will run from December 7, 2012 to March 29, 2013.
Registration dates are Friday, Nov. 30 and Wednesday, Dec. 5 from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Mattahunt.
The program is $40 for non-members and $35 for members. The cost includes team shirts, awards, and end of program appreciation. Read more

Boston students and schools are invited to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee program through the 6th Annual BCYF Spelling Bee. Boston students of public, charter, pilot, and parochial schools as well as home-schooled students are eligible to participate in BCYF’s Bee this spring only after they have won a Bee held at a Boston school. In addition to improving students’ spelling skills and broadening their vocabulary, Spelling Bee participation provides valuable experience in developing self-confidence—a necessary skill for success in public speaking and performing arts.
