Mayor Menino will tour the new library and speak briefly at the Mather School, the oldest public elementary school in the nation, which was renovated this summer as part of the Target Volunteers School Library Makeover program. The school was selected as one of 16 schools nationwide to receive the library makeover. The estimated cost of the makeover is $125 million and includes new shelving, reading corners, lighting, paint, carpet, state-of-the-art technology, and 2,000 new books.

2:00 PM 50th Anniversary Celebration of Howard Johnson’s Boston

Mayor Menino will speak briefly to help celebrate the 50th anniversary with community leaders and Howard Johnson officials.
