District 3 forums on the calendar

Mark your calendars, District 3 race junkies: three forums are coming up.

Here’s a rundown:

-- Wednesday, Aug. 24. 7 pm. at Florian Hall on Hallet St. Sponsored by civic and business associations within District 3, including the Dorchester Board of Trade and civic associations from Ashmont Adams to Cedar Grove, Clam Point, Columbia/Savin Hill, Fields Corner, Jones Hill, Lower Mills, Pope’s Hill, Port Norfolk and St. Mark’s.

-- Monday, Aug. 29. 6 p.m. at the Ledge Restaurant in Lower Mills. Endorsements, which require two-thirds of the votes of those present, are expected to follow. DotOUT, an organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people and their allies who live and work in Dorchester, is sponsoring the forum. The forum will also include candidates for other district races with preliminaries, including District 2 and District 7. Sue O’Connell, the publisher of Bay Windows and South End News, will moderate, as she did the mayoral forum in 2009. Candidate answers to a DotOUT questionnaire are available here.

-- Tuesday, Sept. 20. 6 p.m. Harbor Health Services at 1135 Morton St. in Mattapan. Michael Curry, president of the Boston branch of the NAACP, will moderate. Scheduled a week before the preliminary election, the forum is sponsored by MassVOTE, Codman Square Health Center, Carney Hospital, the Neponset Health Center and the Massachusetts League of Community Health Centers, among others.

A pair of ward committees sponsored a forum last week at First Parish Church. Story is available here, while video is available here.

The preliminary is set for Sept. 27, when the field of seven is expected to narrow to two candidates. The final face off is on Nov. 8.
