Casting call goes out for political play, "Murph"
By
A casting call has been posted for the Boston-themed political drama written by a Dorchester playwright.
Mike Deehan interviewed Catherine O'Neill for the Reporter last year about her play, "Murph," set on "the eve of the Clinton administration," and focused on Boston's political scene and state Rep. Kevin Murphy (not to be confused with the real-life state representative from Lowell). Local theater production company Argos Productions is putting the play together.
Here's the casting call for "Murph," his kitchen cabinet and a national political strategist that's been posted on the company's website:
Murph (30s): A state representative. Fiercely ambitious and secretive, but pretends not to be. Charming, a political star on the rise, but truly a man of the people.
Gary (30s) Murph’s right-hand man. A political genius with street smarts, but is an alcoholic mess otherwise. Good-natured with a sharp tongue and a sincere want to do good. A little goofy too.
Katie (early 30s) The smartest member of this political team. Girl-next-door-type but with a sharp wit and a thick skin. Fiercely loyal.
Seth Smith (40s) A political strategist. Southern. Ex- Navy Seal and Harvard man. Highly intelligent, articulate, and charming. Very confident.
The play is scheduled to run at the Boston Playwrights Theatre from April 13 to April 28.
