Coakley to testify at Pressley hearing on for-profit schools
By
State Attorney General Martha Coakley on Wednesday will headline a hearing on for-profit occupation schools. The hearing, called by City Councillor At-Large Ayanna Pressley, will focus on the feasibility of a public awareness campaign, similar to one in New York, on “predatory recruitment and education practices” at some of the for-profit schools.
The hearing, which comes as Coakley’s office is investigating the schools and Beacon Hill lawmakers have given the state Division of Professional Licensure regulatory authority over the schools, is scheduled for 11 a.m. in City Hall’s Iannella Chamber.
Other scheduled witnesses include Tara Colton, executive director of New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office of adult education and Ruth Liberman, vice president of public policy at the Crittenton Women’s Union.
