Pressley to appear on MSNBC's 'Ed Show,' talk Blunt Amendment

City Councillor At-Large Ayanna Pressley will appear on MSNBC's "The Ed Show" on Thursday night to talk about women's health issues and the controversial proposal known as the Blunt amendment.

The amendment, sponsored by U.S. Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Missouri), allows employers to opt out of health benefit mandates for religious or moral reasons.

U.S. Sen. Scott Brown (R-Wrentham) is backing the amendment, saying it protects religious freedom. He has clashed with Kennedy family members for saying the late Edward Kennedy would have held the same position. Democratic challenger Elizabeth Warren has said the amendment "threatens women's access to contraception, ammograms, even maternity care."

Pressley, a Dorchester Democrat, is chair of the City Council's Committee on Women and Healthy Communities. She is slated to appear on MSNBC at 8:40 p.m.

"The Ed Show," hosted by Ed Schultz, airs weekdays on MSNBC at 8 p.m.
