Intramural &
All-Star Soccer Program

Week number four of the Spring Indoor Soccer program took place last week with two Intramural games, a session for the Clinic program (6 & 7 year olds) and All-Star games for both our Daniel Marr and Walter Denney Center units. In the 4-team co-ed Intramural program for members age 8 to 12, the opener saw Celtic F.C. defeat Inter Milan by a score of 11-4. Jennifer Tavares (5 goals), Dante Clark (2 goals), Devante Teixeira (2 goals), Nick Mastrogiacomo (1 goal) and Francis DePina (1 goal) led the Celtic F.C. attack while Inter Milan was led by Maxwell Spinola (2 goals), Jordan Washington (1 goal) and Zelito Pina (1 goal). In the second game Manchester United received their offense from Reed Garvey (2 goals), Isaac Butler (1 goal) and Fabio Cabral (1 goal) helping defeat F.C. Barcelona by a score of 4-2. Saide Smith (1 goal) and Jessica Teixeira (1 goal) provided the offense for F.C. Barcelona.

The Defensive Players of the Week were Marquis Jacks of Inter Milan and Jessica Teixeira of Barcelona F.C. while the Offensive Players of the Week were Jennifer Tavares of Celtic F.C. and Reed Garvey of Manchester United. Current standings have the Celtic F.C. in first place with a record of 4-0, followed by Manchester United at 2-1-1, Barcelona F.C. at 1-2-1 and Inter Milan at 0-4. In addition to the Intramural program, our two 12 & under co-ed All-Star teams continued regular season play. Our Walter Denney Youth Center squad fell to the Waltham Club while the Daniel Marr Stars defeated the Watertown Club.

Next week the Daniel Marr All-Stars will host the Waltham Club while our Denney Center Unit will host the Watertown Club. For more information on our Indoor Soccer program please contact Athletic Director, Bruce Seals at ext. 105.

Annual Women's Leadership Awards Dinner Held

On Wednesday, May 29 the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dorchester will host over 700 club members and guests at the 16th Annual New England Women's Leadership Awards Dinner at the World Trade Center. We congratulate the following women who will be recognized at the event: Circle of Giving Award &endash; Marilyn Rodman, Marilyn Rodman Theater for Kids Program; Leadership Award &endash; Grace Fey, Grace Fey Advisors; Community Spirit Awards &endash; Azzie Young, Mattapan Community Health Center and Maureen E. Feeney, President, Boston City Council; Pioneer Award &endash; Judy Walden Scarafile, Cape Cod Baseball League; and Courage Award &endash; Carolyn M. Kaelin, MD, MPH, FACS, Dana-Farber/Brigham and Women's Cancer Center. The six award winners will be presented their awards by Club members: Cila Brandao, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, Danielle French, Jackie Durant, Ashley Miranda and Ashley Montrond. Walter Denney Youth Center
Summer Registration

The third, and newest Unit of the Boys and Girls Club, the Walter Denney Youth Center, is located in the Harbor Point section of Dorchester and primarily serves the residents of the mixed-income housing community. Registration for the summer program that will take place at the Center has begun and we will continue to take applications until all spots are filled. Please note that the daytime program, which is for members ages 8 to 12, will reserve 80 spots for residents of the Harbor Point community and offer a maximum of 40 spots for non-residents. The Center also houses an after-school Childcare program for ages 5-12 that includes a before school component and extended hours during the school vacations and summer. This program also accepts vouchers for eligible families.
